Our research beings by defining “quality” in a small study area strategically chosen through mapping exercises, specifically targeting areas in Toronto with environmental, infrastructural and social challenges. By concentrating on an area with these challenges, we aim to develop methodologies to define quality that can be scaled for municipal application. A municipal level analysis of environmental, physical, and social indicators, as is shown in the maps in this section, revealed an area in the city that is underserved based on a variety of factors - the Black Creek Subwatershed. This area is used as a case study for the first phase of the project. Most of the data and terminology used in this section is derived from the City of Toronto, the TRCA, and the 2021 Canadian Census.
