Place Plumereau

Place Plumereau in Tours, also known as Place Plume, is a place for gathering and celebration. It is like the beating heart of the historic district: the square and the activities surrounding it encourage passersby to slow their pace or even stop for a moment. The 15th- and 7th-century half-timbered houses surrounding the square lend the place a warm atmosphere. These historic buildings stand like walls, shielding the square from all vehicular traffic. People walk through the square or head there to enjoy the bars and restaurants that surround it and line the connecting streets. This square serves as both a place of rest and a thoroughfare: the terraces of these establishments occupy the center of the square, while a walkway allows pedestrians to move between the buildings and the terraces. Place Plume in Tours is a landmark: - It is a focal point toward which streets and passersby from Tours’ historic neighborhoods converge. - It is a heart steeped in history, whose identity and warm atmosphere are shaped by its activities, its layout, and the types of buildings that surround it. It lies at the heart of residential neighborhoods and is close to the city’s major historic buildings. - It is a true space INTO which passersby enter, rest, and leave. It is worth noting, by the way, that “Place Plume” is a nickname that reflects a certain attachment on the part of those who live there: it is a historic place that anchors the neighborhood’s present-day life.
